The Juicy Awards 2005.

Ah! This years events were wide and varied and sometimes it is so hard to decide what our favourite (and least favourite) moments were. This takes many minutes of consideration from the members of the juice crew over several pints of Stella and some Bayard and Cokes in the local but the event was superb, the glitter (left over from Christmas) was everywhere and the atmosphere could be cut with a knife (something to do with the Chimney blocked, the landlord said) but here it is after all of the razzamatazz.

Best event of 2005: Mariza Tour, Autumn in the UK. Portuguese FADO Singer.

Best Technician of 2005: Joćo Tavares Cebolas, Engineer for Mariza for total consistency in sound mixing no matter what venue. (UK Tour Autumn 2005, BBC Awards 2005, plus others around Europe where we have heard him mix).

"Love to see you again soon Joao" from all at Juice.

Best Venue of 2005: Hall for Cornwall, Truro, for being efficient, caring and downright nice people.

Best Crew of 2005: Warwick Arts Centre crew, to the house technicians who perform crew duties to a great standard, sometimes above and beyond what is expected of them for us every time with enthusiasm and always a warm welcome. Thank you guys.

Best Programmer/Promoter: Ian Richards (Metropolis) for just being a nice guy, buying the drinks and hanging out. Sorry we upset your artiste and hope to see you again in 2006.

Best International Event:

John: Klangbad Festival, Scheer, Southern Germany, sheer hard work, sheer mountain sides, Scheer great village, good beer, good people, good canoeing, great bands, great music.

Magali:

Arnaud: Spent my life at Juice so I didn't have any! (I think it was his round!)

And Finally the Raspberry's!

Worst Venue/Person/Event of 2005:  We just thought it was better to give this an overall title for the worst thing that happened over the past year. In this case there was a clear overall winner in this category. This is somewhat unusual these days as most companies and individuals are anti drug and anti abuse, but in this case Chris Connor of Traxx Events who was TM for "The Music" at the time wins worst TM/Individual for his drug fuelled Ranting, Abusive and Bullying attitude towards not just our own staff, but the promoters and the venue staff. A very poor example of this wonderful business and we hope he does not to stay in it for very long. Pity because the band and techs were really nice guys.

And just in case you missed them:-

Awards for 2004:

Best event of 2004: "It came so far for beauty" Songs of Leonard Cohen performed by various artistes such as Nick Cave, Beth Orton, Jarvis Cocker and Rufus Wainwright at the Brighton Festival May 2004 at the Brighton Dome. (2003 Marvellous Festival, Reading).

Best Technician of 2004: Jimmy Hulligan at Usher Hall, Edinburgh for his excellent communication, enthusiasm and general "it will happen" approach. (2003 Barry at Colston Hall, Bristol for Gotan Project).

Best Venue of 2004: Undecided as yet! (this nearly turned into a fight)! (2003 Brighton Dome, Brighton).

Best Crew of 2004: Edinburgh's Showtec Crew at the Usher Hall for their humour, their abilities in all weathers (it always rains and snows when we are there) to get the gear in and their speed and efficiency on the job. (2003 CCCP of Brighton).

Best Programmer/Booker: Guy Morley (Brighton Festival) (2003 Neil Darlison Warwick Arts).

Best International Event:

Magali: Australia Big Day Out, great food, lots of Ping Pong.

Arnaud: MTV recording of Orchestra Baobab in Dakar.

And Finally the Rasberry's!

Worst Venue of 2004: St David's Hall, Cardiff for being unhelpful and unable to do anything other than be useless and for the Security being downright obstructive.

Note: In their defence we went back to St David's Hall, Cardiff and found the Technicians at later dates to be efficient and really nice guys. Just a few bad apples.
